To create/explore business among two different companies, companies share information from one company to another in form of purchase order. In B2B, companies are know as partner. In Early days, one company needs to pass their request in form of flat file, xml etc and save it into common repository. Another company picks the data file and updates their system weekly/ fortnightly. There was no common structure of data file that can be used among different companies.
Afterward companies agreed on common standard structure of file of different industries. EDI and RosettaNet are widely used standard among different companies.
